La Jolla Boulevard is one of the two arterials serving the central village. The Bird Rock
business district, which derived its name from an offshore formation that has long been a
favored nesting place for seabirds, serves the needs of a large residential area in southern
La Jolla.
Often referred to by locals as "restaurant row" the boulevard's three-block stretch
between Camino de la Costa and Midway boasts no less than twenty restaurants
including some of La Jolla's finer dining spots. From sushi to burritos or tortellini
to escargots, gourmands can select from an outstanding variety of cuisines and prices.
Certainly, restaurants contribute substantially to La Jolla's economy and to its quality
of life. Competing with the finest food capitals of the world, La Jolla abounds with
exquisite restaurants and casual eateries.
The southernmost stretch of La Jolla Boulevard, adjoining the community of Pacific Beach,
is home to several convenient motels which are in walking distance to Bird Rock's renown
beaches.
