La Jolla Elementary School has approximately 435 students in grades K-5 and
is located in the heart of La Jolla. The school uses the Everyday Mathematics
program developed by the University of Chicago. Each grade level has a six
week unit study in earth science, life science and physical science. All
classrooms have internet access and multimedia computers. Three hours each
day are devoted to studying language arts. Students have the opportunity to
listen and discuss good literature, read books at their level with teacher
guidance along with independent reading, and time and encouragement to develop
their writing skills.
Parents are active volunteers and the PTA provides cultural enrichment through
a monthly series of "First Friday" assemblies. There are frequent fundraisers
to help support daily instructional needs of the students and to improve the facility.
